Oxford City SKC is affiliated to JKA-England (“JKAE”) which is a non profit association based in England and Wales. It is associated with the Japan Karate Association (“JKA”) in Japan, one of the most prestigious, oldest and largest Shotokan Karate organisations in the world.
Under the guidance of the Chief Instructor, Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta, and together with the Executive and Technical Committees, they provide the administrative and practical direction to JKA England clubs.
With these affiliations and memberships, Oxford City SKC is bound by strict rules and procedures, which are designed to protect you or your child to ensure you receive the highest quality of karate instruction.
It is responsible for the grading system which means that any coloured belt obtained with us would be recognised in any of the many JKA England clubs in the country.
National and International Courses
JKA England organises regular courses around the country where students from different clubs have an opportunity to train together. Twice a year the JKAE holds its International courses in Crawley. Some of the best instructors from around the world are invited to attend these courses, and they attract visitors from all over Europe to come and train.

Sensei Yoshinobu Ohta
Chief instructor to the JKAE
Born in Japan, Sensei Ohta attended the famous JKA Instructors course in Tokyo. Sensei Ohta was Master Enoeda’s assistant in the UK from 1983 to 2003. It was during this time he gained an international reputation for being one of the most technically skilled JKA instructors. He teaches at all national courses and teaches abroad, as well as at his own clubs in London.
The JKAE runs courses and examinations specifically for their instructors that gives a thorough insight into concepts of karate, and the teaching of karate. Instructors attend these courses - usually in autumn, and after intensive study take examinations the following spring.
