Oxford City Shotokan Karate Club

The Adventure

Starts Now

We are delighted that you have decided to join Oxford City Shotokan Karate Club.

This could be the start of something special! We now just have a bit of red tape to deal with.

To ensure a simple and swift membership process, here's a simple step-by-step guide:

Step 1: Join JKA England

All members of our club have to join our governing body JKA-England.
Membership per year is £30. This enables you to grade (go up through the belt colours) to take part in competitions and attend their regional, national and international courses.

Click the button below, this will take you to the JKA England registration page. Click on “new members” then scroll down to select "Oxford City SKC" as your club.

Step 2: Choose Your Membership Package

Select the membership package that best suits you. Most new to karate will start training once a week, you can always change this at a later date when your enthusiasm means you want to train more:

Bronze Membership
(£32/month)

This is a good place to start. This allows you to train once a week. If you are away one week - no problem, train twice the next week.  If you find you want to do more - no problem, we simply put you on the next package.

Silver Membership
(£38/month)

As you become more enthusiastic about karate, you may want to increase the amount you train. This package lets you train twice a week. Again, if you miss a lesson for whatever reason - just come a bit more often until you’ve caught up. You will find that training more will help in your continued developmet.

Gold Membership
(£47/month)

Someones keen! This allows you to train at any of our standard training sessions (age permitting). Train as often as you wish. This option is not really for those starting out - don’t burn out too fast. Those who are further into their karate need to look at training more often if they want to continue to grow and improve.

This is the small print bit

Occasionally we have to cancel lessons. Sunday sessions for example sometimes clash with other events like competitions or instructor training days.

There are some other costs not covered by membership for example:

  • Gradings - the tests taken for going up through the belts
  • Special courses - when we host visiting instructors, these courses will be extra - but worth it
  • JKAE Regional, National and International courses. You don’t have to go on these but it is a chance to train with some of the best in the country
  • JKA Regional, National and Open championships. Again, this is not something you have to do, but they are great fun and a great way to bond with your other club members
  • Special Training sessions. We hold competition preparation sessions, specifically to prepare for competitions, these are extra - usually just to cover the cost of the hall
  • Birthday celebrations. If its your birthday that week, bring cake!
